Communication. Creativity. Development.
These are some of my greatest strengths. Thanks to an English degree and background in journalism / communications, I have strong writing and editing skills. I also have a creative approach when it comes to developing activities and programs, as well as an eye for design and ability to boil complex information down to manageable "portions." Please see some of the examples below, which demonstrate my ability to write, design, and plan.
I developed the following activity to use in a workshop with Tarleton's Center for Academic Readiness and Success student mentors. The activity draws from a "Grit Pie" tool cited in this article on fostering grit, found on Berkley's Great Good website. The purpose of the activity that I developed was to encourage resilience in the mentors, but also to help them consciously model resilience and encourage "grit" in the students with whom they work.
I developed the following program to use in class with a group of freshmen who were identified as being high risk for not persisting based on several risk factors. The students were on campus over the summer taking their first college courses, one of which was taught by the Center for Academic Readiness and Success. This program was implemented during that class.
I developed the following documents to assist a group of high school students in developing their first resumes. This was done as part of a multi-week outreach program that was developed in partnership with a local agency that provides income-based housing, and a variety of services to its residents.
I developed the following game for the group of high school students referenced above, as well as for Tarleton's Upward Bound program. The game uses 5 skills from Sean Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens as the basis for the game. Students roll dice to determine how many spaces they move, and if they land on a green or red spot, the facilitator reads a scenario to them that either advances them or sends them backward. Discussion revolves around which skill / lack thereof influenced that scenario.
Communication / Design
I developed the following items and collaborated with a team and / or designer to finalize the finished product.
